Touch International's TurboWare Now Supports Versions Microsoft Windows XP, CE.NET and 3.0 Devices for Touch-Enhanced Applications
TRIER, Germany and AUSTIN, Texas - June 11, 2002 - Touch International Inc., a global touch screen supplier, today announced that the company's TurboWare touch screen driver now supports Microsoft® Windows® XP, CE.NET and CE 3.0. Target applications include personal digital assistants (PDAs), tablet PCs, web pads, smart phones, and any smart devices that employ Microsoft's new technology, "Mira."
Market Opportunity
The Market Intelligence Center predicts the production volume for Taiwan's information appliance (IA) market, including web pads, PDAs, and smart phones, will grow 46% to reach $1.81 billion in 2002 - accounting for an estimated 15% of world-wide market share. Specific to web-enabled devices-led by handheld products like Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PC, Forrester Research predicts production volume will exceed 1.4 billion units by 2004.
"Portable and handheld devices are a primary market focus for the company," said Gary Barrett, chief technology officer, Touch International. "To meet the technology requirements for our growing customer base, we decided to expand the TurboWare family to include drivers for Windows® XP, CE.NET and CE 3.0."
Microsoft's Windows XP is now shipping with new personal computers for more processing power, remote access, and touch-enabled functions. Windows CE.NET, the robust version of the Windows CE real-time operating system, enables users to build customized platforms for a wide variety of mobile devices, such as smart phones, PDAs, web pads, and smart display devices based on "Mira."
Reflex International, a value-added reseller for point of sale and kiosk terminals, is among the first of Touch International's new spherical touchscreen customers.
Availability TurboWare is available now and will be delivered free with the purchase of any eTurbo family product, including both resistive and capacitive touchscreens: Turbo T4, Turbo T6, Turbo Pen, and XGT.
