Fly with Touch
First Touch Screen Application in a Commercial Jet!
Another member of Touch International's team led the project for the first touch screen application to be deployed in a commercial airplane. Developed for today's largest aerospace manufacturer, the scanning infrared touch screen computer was designed to control the plane's climate, audio, and video systems, as well as other electronic instruments. The toughest requirement was building a touchscreen that could pass the rigorous regulations of the FAA, which demands that flight instruments be inflammable and shatterproof. The device, encased in a CRT with a footprint small enough to fit snug and secure within the flight attendant galley, also had to meet power consumption and cost constraints.
